About The Book

Description

On a quiet fall evening in the small, peaceful town of Mill Valley, California, Dr. Miles Bennel discovered a horrifying, insidious plot. Subtly, silently, almost imperceptibly, alien life forms were taking over the bodies and minds of his friends and neighbors, the woman he loved—the world as he knew it. Originally published in 1955, this classic thriller about the triumph of the human spirit over an invisible enemy inspired two major motion pictures. Finney's sinister tale has outgrown the initial debate about whether it satirized Communism or the conformity of US society at the time, to become a classic of paranoia; an examination of our fear of 'the other'. Here's your chance to read the original story that has resonated with readers and viewers for more than 50 years. Jack Finney is the author of Time and Again (1970). His other books include About Time, Forgotten News, and Three by Finney.
