Description

A new edition of the classic adventure novel The Prisoner of Zenda, by Anthony Hope. The novel begins on the eve of the coronation of the new king of Ruritania, when the would-be king is drugged and imprisoned by political enemies. Desperate to foil the coup, the king's supporters find a traveling Englishman, Rudolf Rassendyll, who resembles the king to take his place as a decoy at the coronation and temporarily stabilize the situation. But will Rassendyll be able to keep up the deception until the king -- now the titular "prisoner of Zenda" -- can be rescued? Originally published 1894, The Prisoner of Zenda was one of the most popular novels of its day and was the subject to multiple film and stage adaptations, continuing to capture the imaginations of readers even to this day. Anthony Hope (1863-1933) was a British novelist and playwright, most famous for his novel The Prisoner of Zenda and its sequel Rupert of Hentzau, both considered to be classics of English literature and highly influential on the development of adventure genre literature.
